ran into a friend i havent seen in about a year on the subway today.

one of the first things she asked me was ‘so, are you seeing anyone?’

maybe i’d be perceiving this question quite a bit differently if i was seeing someone. but is it unreasonable for me to be a bit offended that my own existence is qualified by others dependent on whether or not i have a boyfriend? especially from a person i used to know quite well.

i feel like it’s an impersonal question to ‘catch up’ with. i guess any 3 minute interaction between stops on a subway will be superficial, and maybe it’s my own irritation with this person that changes the way i’m reading her question. DOESNT MEAN IT CANT PISS ME OFF, THOUGH.
